- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- pinch of salt
- 1 large vidalia onion (diced)
- 4 ounces sliced white mushrooms
- 1 teaspoon fresh chopped thyme leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 1/2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch
- 3 cups beef stock
- 1 tablespoon butter
- kosher salt and pepper (to taste)
- Chopped fresh parsley or chives
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, onion powder, pepper, and salt. Form into four oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a cast iron skillet and brown patties for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove from skillet.
- In the same skillet, sauté onions until translucent; add mushrooms and cook until soft. Stir in thyme and garlic powder.
- Gradually add beef stock and flour/cornstarch while scraping the pan's bottom. Bring to a boil until thickened; stir in butter.
- Return patties to the gravy and simmer for 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
- Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs.
