  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons Kahlua, or other coffee liqueur
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • Ground cinnamon, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt diced butter and chopped chocolate in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Whisk in granulated sugar, then add eggs one at a time, followed by espresso powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Gently fold in sifted flour until combined.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared dish and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. For the Kahlua buttercream, cream softened butter with heavy cream, then gradually mix in Kahlua and sifted powdered sugar until smooth.
  7. Once cooled, spread buttercream on the brownies and dust with ground cinnamon before cutting into bite-sized pieces.
