  • 1 (12-14 oz) loaf of french bread, sourdough, or challah
  • 8 oz full-fat brick cream cheese, softened
  • 3 tbsp confectioners’ sugar
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 ¼ cups whole milk
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Cut the bread into 1-inch cubes and layer half in the dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth, then blend in confectioners’ sugar. Spoon over the bread cubes and cover with remaining cubes.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla until combined. Pour evenly over the bread layers. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Prepare the topping by mixing brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cubed butter until crumbly. Sprinkle on top of the casserole.
  5. Bake uncovered for 45–55 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
